The music world has lost an outstanding conductor and musician in Sir Andrew Davis. He was Music Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra from 1975 to 1988, Music Director of the British Glyndebourne Festival from 1988 to 2000, Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra from 1989 to 2000 and Music Director of the Lyric Opera Chicago from 2000 to 2021. At the Bayreuth Festival, Sir Andrew Davis conducted Keith Warner’s Lohengrin production in 2002 and 2003. As an entertainer, he made a name for himself with his humorous moderation of the London concert series “Last nights of the Proms”. The British Symphony Orchestra honoured Davis as a “driving force in British music” for decades.
