Oswald Georg Bauer, a proven Wagner expert and connoisseur of the Bayreuth Festival, died on 12 December. After completing his doctorate in Vienna, he worked as a scientific and artistic assistant for Wolfgang Wagner between 1974 and 1985, and was head of the press office from 1976-1986. From 1986 to 2004 he worked as a freelancer for Wolfgang Wagner and at the same time was Secretary General of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In addition to his extensive international exhibition, lecture and teaching activities, he has published numerous works on theatre history, especially on Richard Wagner and the Bayreuth Festival. We will honour the memory of Oswald Georg Bauer, who was appointed “chronicler of the Festival” by Wolfgang Wagner!
